Location

Abertay University

Date

January 2024 - May 2025

Role

Solo Dev

Project type

Honours Project

The Inverdale Case is my 4th year Honours project which focused on using narrative mechanics as method of building and sustaining engagement and player motivation.

The game is a murder mystery set in a fiction town in the Scottish Highlands, where players take on the role of detective. They must cipher through physical evidence, as well as a digital recreation of the victims mobile phone made with Unreal Engine, in order to deduce the true killer.

The digital section of the game was made using Unreal Engine showcases my competency developing UI systems using Unreal Engine's Widgets system. Through this I have learned best practice for managing extremely complicated UI as well as best practice for narrative design and the creation of compelling mystery games. The game features custom built search functionality to compare the users searched term with the content of message chains, returning only messages that match the search term.

The game was built for both Windows and Android, giving me strong experience building games for multiple platforms.
